An email message is designed similar to a web page which allows a recipient to see all design elements in their email browser window.

A few key design elements that should be followed are:

  • Email is focused on 1 or 2 key messages
  • Break apart promotions into separate messages to be emailed at different times
  • Have a clear action statement that is visually easy to understand. What do you want the user to do:
    - Visit your site?
    - Click here to save money? 
    - Refer a friend?

Make certain that when the user takes action, ie: clicks on that "save now" button, the web page that loads looks similar to the email and talks about the same promotion (users don't often give second chances to poor promotions).
